This novel is about Perdido beach island which is located somewhere near california. Some kind of weird mutation took place over the place. It is revolving around the Power plant. It happens that suddenly all the people who were 15 or above age suddenly disappears and the only people left were below 15. This created a lot of fear and disturbance over the place. It was mainly because lower age kids were unable to decide what is going on over the place and how to make their daily lives work in a normal way.

When all this was going on, kids were using the food stuff recklessly as they were never  got a chance to ear candies and chocolates as much as they wish. This created a kind of havoc over the place. During all this several people realized that some of the kids were developing certain kind of supernatural powers. From them one the kid named Caine were thinking that he is the most powerful person from the people who possessed powers. He had discovered this from his girlfriend named Diana, who was having power to judge the amount of supernatural power anyone is possessing.

Between all this the complete story is running around Sam Temple. Astrid, Edido, Quinn and Little Pette. Sam possesses a super illuminating power being released from his hands. This light has the capability of burning any living or non-living thing which comes in its way. But sam has not realized this power yet and will not realize it for quite a long time.

It appeared to be quite strange that all the adults have disappeared but all the stuff was stopped except the power plant which was nuclear power plant. From where all the fuel was getting added in the power plant? Slowly as kids started founding about their powers, there were two groups created between the Coates academy kids and kids from Pedido Beach. Sam who had four bar power as per diana scalling system (she had power to measure powers of mutants), was the highest along with caine over there. This made caine quite depressed as he was scared that Sam might take over his power.

Coates Academy was a place where challenged kids were sent. This kids were difficult to control by their own parents, so instead of sending them to normal school, it turned to be better for their parents to send them to coates academy. Coates acedemy students were quite dominating specially Caine from the same over the other kids who were equally suffering from the poof moment.

With this kids started suffering due to Caine powers. Slowly when Sam could no longer see the suffering of the kids, he started developing army to fight against Caine and won the battle. During all this happening, there is a character named computer Jack who is trying hard to develop local internet connection. This could help the people to communicate inside the FAYZ (Fall out youth zone), which was named to the barrier which covered the area. It was clear to the kids that they were incapable to touch the fayz wall as it would burn whoever touch it. So they had no option but to find their survival inside the FAYZ.

When this fight was about to start, Sam's 15th birthday was coming too. He was scared about getting poof'ed off before winning the battle. But when actual poof process started it occurred exactly in the same way as Computer Jack had found out in the experiment done by Caine using high resolution cameras to capture the entire poof movement. Sam declined to move out in the poof and decided to stay in the FAYZ. Caine had already decided to stay as he and sam were twin brothers who didn’t looked alike so their poof moment were nearby.
